VIG share performance

VIG shares were carried along by domestic and international stock exchange trends in 2011, and closed the year at a price of EUR 30.62, 21.3% lower than the price at the end of the previous year. Even though VIG shares performed considerably better than the ATX Index, this was the first year-on-year price drop recorded by VIG following extremely positive performance in 2009 and 2010.

In accordance with the Vienna Stock Exchange development, VIG shares recorded their high for the year of EUR 43.65 on 18 February 2011 and maintained a price level of approximately EUR 40.00 until the middle of May. The premium and profit increases recorded by VIG and its minimal holdings of government bonds from PIIGS countries were unable to counterbalance the investor scepticism created by discussions on the Eurozone debt crisis and the deteriorating economic outlook. After a significant initial correction to a level just above EUR 30.00 at the beginning of August, VIG shares reached a low for the year of EUR 24.63 on 24 November 2011. The price of VIG shares rose again significantly by more than 20% by the end of the year. As of the editorial deadline at the end of February, the price of VIG shares was EUR 33.14.
